The Historical Index of Human Development (HIHD) is a summary measure of average achievement in key dimensions of human development: it represents an index
of life expectancy, literacy rates, educational enrolment, and per capita gross domestic product (GDP). This is shown below using an index which does include GDP
versus the index without GDP.
