European urban population shares from 1500-1980, 1500 to 1980

The urban population as a share of the total population. Up until and including 1890, a territory or region is defined as urban if there are 10,000 or more inhabitants.
For 1980, a territory or region is defined as urban is there are 100,000 or more inhabitants. See the source tab for more details.
